Dear Ben

I am also a MH patient and professional. Please keep pushing for the needed changes and accountability that the NHS mental health service needs. We need more people like you and me that are prepared to put are heads above the pulpit, if there are people that take a shot at us, let them. Keep up your good work. Rosina

Thank you for your frank opinions which I think perfectly illustrate our difficulties. On a practical note it constrains the funding for setting up a new venture such as this if it is designated 'non-profit' and without aiming this at the private sector I would personally have lacked the skills to attract the investment which allowed this clinic to start. I have however set up a non-profit organisation to achieve similar aims in the public sector, Get Stable, and worked on both this and a significant lobbying effort with a national think tank. We would love to receive central funding from the NHS and treat people based on clinical need only but our programme would not yet be supported for such funding.

What a crock!
I believe the therapists that work in your clinic are dedicated, passionate and truly believe the work they do helps the patients you have. However, your approach to promoting these clinics and marketing your services are done in a way that makes you look like you care when in fact its really all about the money!
What ever happened to the non-profit organisation??????
Do you have to own/rent properties in the most expensive areas of London and Oxford?
Would the money the clinic makes not be better spent on developing said buildings, especially the residential clinic, in order to improve the standards of living for your residents? Or spending it on developing treatment options for patients that need extra help? Certainly rather than allowing you to take 3 months off within 3 years of starting the operation.
Your self promotion is sickening, even more so when its done on the back of other peoples suffering!
I hope the patients you have are able to find other alternatives to your clinics, perhaps with the growing understanding, acceptance and practice of SE and EMDR, they will!

Hi, I just wanted to say, I've not been involved with Khiron House or met you, but I think you may have been too tough on yourself in your comments, Benjamin. The thing about someone achieving the opposite of what they set out to achieve is what is said when issues of leadership, power or control are dealt with as a group. If this has been said to you by others, it's a very black and white assessment, which is likely to have been unfair. I also saw Brian Cox in the papers today saying that if scientists ceded their public profile, it would mean that it was all X factor type stuff on the box. I think that the new Chief Exec needs to be very open and thankful about the role of the founders. And I think that they need to find a way for you to remain involved slightly if this is what you want and if it is not going to be harmful. Good luck for the next chapter! David

As an expat American, I can safely say that the "industry" will attack anything they don't see fitting in their old, draconian approach to therapy. The hands-off approach in the UK is alarming. I know people who've gone in for serious issues and get handed a packet of antiquated Prozac and patted on the back. Addicts who medicate their PTSD and mental illness are put on the uselss methadone. And as for counselling and therapy, they think 5 sessions is life changing. Don't get me wrong, many professionals are dedicated, but as you stated "when I returned from America and my treatement" - anything chellneging the very strange status quo over here will be attacked, and attempted to be discreited because British Professionals refuse change at every turn.

I only found Khiron House thanks to an article and interview with you in the Daily Mail, an article I found through Google. It was at a very pivotal and fragile moment of my life, and I think had I not come in touch with Khiron House then, things would not have been looking up the way they are doing now. Having had a traumatic childhood, like most of Khiron's clients, I have tried different therapies and therapists throughout the years. Never before have I experienced something that makes so much sense, that resonates so strongly, and that fills me with so much hope that I will actually be able to be free of the hiccups caused by my past.

I personally found the articles and marketing methods just perfect. Good luck on your future endeavors, and thank you for the amazing place you've created with Khiron.

I have read the articles in the press from time to time and found it very interesting. Most of my family are psychiatrists or psychologists and I know they are not on the whole allowed for those whom they treat even to know they have children or anything about their lives so I can see how different your way has been. I don't really see why it had to be regarded as a problem but clear it has.

I spend a lot of my life (am a solicitor) dealing with disputes between shareholders and directors so probably read your blog from a very different point of view than those who have had mental health issues but it sounds like this has all been resolved amicably which is always the best result. Just do make sure that loads of effort is put into very well written shareholders' agreements - it really does save everyone a lot of trouble.

Hello Benjamin

Thank you for your email and letting me know that you are stepping down as MD of Khiron House. I first saw you on tv helping people with all sorts of problems and I was very impressed with your honesty, kindness and use of language (NLP as used in hypnotherapy). The so-called professional people want a kick in the butt now and again just to shake them up and I think this is precisely what you have done. Thank you. I too have suffered from depression and my story, like yours, is one of amazing facts that just have to be written down in a book. I, myself, am writing a book so my story is on paper, I don't think I will publish but if I do, wish me luck! Keep up the good work, Ben, and god bless you.
